As far as concept goes, I was thinking about incorporating wedding photos of my mother and grandmother. The skirt of the wedding dress that my sister is wearing is the same skirt on both my mother and grandmother's dresses. So it is sort of this family heirloom passed down over three generations. I want this piece to capture feelings of time passing and the bond that family/marriage creates.
Like I said, my goal is for this to be more abstract than my previous works in this class. I'm going to do some sketches and will upload them in a different post.
I'm also planning on modifying the piece after it is printed by attaching some of the pressed flowers or maybe some potpourri that we made out of her wedding flowers.
These are the flowers when they were alive!
Some wedding day pictures...
Super cute idea! I would say though to try to hone down on what exactly you want to say and show with this piece be it the idea of family, or tradition whatever it may be.
ReplyDeleteThis idea moving of tradition and heirloom is a really cool idea. The idea of blending years and cycle of marriage is very cool. Also the idea of the cycle of flower could play role on how cycle of marriage works and also the passing of heirlooms. The idea lof ife and death with marriage with use of the cycle life flower.
ReplyDeleteThis idea sounds really neat, and I like the idea of bringing a 3D element into it with the flowers. Maybe you could also incorporate some fabric similar to that on the skirt to add even more dimension to it?
ReplyDeleteI love that the skirt is the same! So cool! I think you have a really solid concept, especially showing the way you are repurposing the flowers just like the dress was repurposed for your sister's wedding
ReplyDeleteThis is a super cool and personal project! I love the mix of media and adding the extra element!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful. I love when people take something so personal and make it into awesome artwork. The scanned flowers are such a great way to represent this concept.
ReplyDeleteLike Elisabeth said, re-using the scanned flowers is a great connection to the wedding skirt heirloom. You can go even further and make it the central theme of your piece.
ReplyDeleteYou can go even further and incorporate a scannogram of the skirt (if there is a scanner where the dress currently is) in your piece.
Going abstract is a fun challenge, but be careful not to loose your underlying message along the way. It is too easy to do.
This idea is fantastic. I love that you are putting meaning into the piece through the flowers and simple elements. I'm interested with the abstraction. Just don't let your idea get lost because it is too abstract.
ReplyDeleteI'm interested to see how this idea will develop. I love the concept of family and marriage. The idea of time passing could easily relate to the flowers and how they were once living, but have been pressed to preserve a memory of them. Going abstract would definitely be interesting to see.
